Miui 9 is a new interface of the series miui 8 with the theme lightning fast MIUI 9 with new feature as User Interface, Key & Gesture Shortcut, Taplus, Split Screen, Home Screen Editor, Silent mode or DND, Security App UI, Recent App UI, Quick Card, MIUI 9 Battery Backup, and feature removed is Child Mode, WiWide (A feature which allowed, users to know the Open Wi-Fi), Contact Card, Show Time (Profile Video).
User Interface
The UI of MIUI 9 is quite light and smooth
Key and Gesture Shortcut
There are new Key and Gesture Shortcut under Settings > Additional Settings > Key and Gesture Shortcut where we can change the combination which are used to turn on the torch, Capture the Screenshot, Launch Camera and much more.
For e.g.: Pressing the Power Button two time to enable the torch or Keep the back button pressed to click a screenshot.
Taplus
This feature helps you to manage the Links which you recieve via message. You can turn on it from Settings > MIUI Lab > Taplus. To use it, whenever you recieve a message press the link you recieve and you will be able to see two options at the bottom of the screen, clicking on the first will open the link in the Default Browser whereas, the second option will help you to edit the link and then open it in the browser.
Split Screen
This is the most awaited and yet most amazing feature of the MIUI 9. It is enabled by default and you can find it in the Recent Apps Menu by pressing the menu button once. You have to click on the Split Screen Mode Bar to enable it and then you have to drag the first app to the Split Screen Bar and then it will show other apps which can be used or cannot be used in Split Screen Mode. The animations of Opening and closing of the split screen feature is amazing and it works pretty smoothly.
Home Screen Editor
The Home Screen Editor aka the place where you can manage all the apps and arrange in the sequence you like them has been changed. Here, a small tick will appear on the selected app unlike the MIUI 8 where you click on the app and it came to the bottom.
After selecting the app, you can take them to other pages by bringing them to the bottom where all the screens are available in short and an empty screen if you would like to create new page with those apps. You can arrange the homescreens in the way you like from the bottom of the screen by pressing and dragging it to the front and it is much amazing to use it with the smooth animations.
Silent Mode or DND
You have an option to put your phone in Silent Mode or DND Mode. You can apply any of these for Silent/DND i.e., Always, 30 Minutes, 1 Hour, 2 Hours and 8 Hours. However, Custom time option isn't available. The DND mode will silence everything except Alarm Clock whereas the Silent Mode will Vibrate for calls and notifications.
Security App UI

Automated Tasks are now present in Security App > Battery > Automated Task. The Security app's Permission UI has a whole new different look.
Recent App UI
The Recent Apps Screen has been fully redesigned. To lock an app just swipe it down and swipe down again to unlock. The Spaces between the apps has been reduced and now it looks more cool to see.
Upon keep pressing on the app, you will get the apps details same like as in MIUI 8. In MIUI 9, the background doesn't gets blurred like in MIUI 8 but rather it replicates the background of the home screen which is more amazing to look.
This is one of the most trending features out there. It was renamed from Smart Assistant. You can find it by swiping from left to right on your Home screen.
The Battery backup on MIUI 9 is pretty good its my opinion only. It can last a full day on light usage.
There are some features which were removed because they weren't much in use and to make sure that MIUI 9 offers a faster performance. Those removed features are: Child Mode, WiWide (A feature which allowed users to know the Open Wi-Fi), Contact Card, Show Time (Profile Video).

How to Upgrade to MIUI 9
1. Please don’t forget to back up your data before upgrading to MIUI 9.
2. If you are using MIUI V5 / MIUI 6 / MIUI 7 / MIUI 8 stable ROM, please upgrade to MIUI 9 via fastboot method.
3. If you using MIUI 8 Global Beta ROM, please go to ‘Updater’ and check for updates.
4. If your device is locked, please unlock it before fastboot flashing. click How to unlock your phone bootloader.
5. Flash it.
